STARNO participated in a groundbreaking digital transformation of the famous mural circuit in Sherbrooke. In collaboration with the Montreal-based firm Space&Dream and Destination Sherbrooke, we helped bring static urban art to life through the power of Augmented Reality (AR).
Our team focused on creating the digital assets and animations required to "unlock" the life frozen within these walls. By scanning the murals with a smartphone or tablet, visitors can watch characters move, hear them speak, and witness the historical scenes evolve in real-time. This "magic lens" approach turns the city into an interactive museum, blending heritage with cutting-edge mobile technology.
The project covers nine major murals, transforming a popular summer walking tour into a high-tech immersive experience that has become a primary point of interest for international visitors.
The Sherbrooke mural circuit is an award-winning open-air gallery that recounts the city's history. With the integration of AR, Destination Sherbrooke sought to modernize the experience for a younger, tech-savvy audience. The project, valued at $500,000, allows for a deeper narrative layer where the local culture—such as the literary universe of Michel Tremblay—can literally step out of the brickwork.
